In 4T everyone contributes and has a classroom job and earns a salary. Our classroom economy allows us to work together to create a classroom atmosphere that is productive and encouraging. Through the 4T Economy, students learn lifelong skills such as managing finances, responsibility, citizenship, and delayed gratification.
Each student must apply for the job that they desire. Once I have reviewed the applications students will receive their position. This job will be their for the entire school year. Below, you will see a list of jobs, their descriptions, and their salaries. The jobs have different salaries because they require a different amount of effort. Some jobs will have to be done every day, while others will require less effort. *These jobs may vary from year to year.
1. Pencil Sharpener: This job requires a student to sharpen our un-sharp pencils each day. In addition, they will be in charge of emptying the sharpener when it gets full. They will remind Ms. Bridgett when more pencils are needed and will make sure students are switching out pencils appropriately. ($450)
2. Librarian: This job requires a student to monitor our classroom library. They will make sure the books are put back on the shelf when returned. In addition, they will make sure our library always looks neat and tidy. The librarian will sign in and out all books that are taken from the classroom library and record them in our notebook. They will make sure the all books are returned before more are checked out from a student. ($475)
3. Secretary (2): This job calls for two students. They will be in charge of passing out and collecting papers throughout the day. They will make sure that all papers have names on them before they are turned in. If a paper does not have a name on it, the secretaries will find out who it belongs to before giving it to Mrs. Tucker. ($425)
4. Mail Monitor (2): This job calls for two students. They will fill our mailboxes whenever there are papers that need to go home. They will be in charge of placing Tiger folders in mailboxes on Mondays. In addition, when tiger folders are returned, mail monitors will make sure that each folder is signed and let Mrs. Tucker know if there are any notes from parents. ($475)
5. Messenger: This job requires one student to travel back and forth to the office and other classrooms when needed. They must be able to travel quickly through the halls while following school expectations. This student must also be able to communicate information effectively from teacher to teacher. ($400)
6. Homework checker (2): These two students will be in charge of making sure each student has completed their homework. They will have a list with each student’s name on it. At the beginning of a subject, they will walk around the room and check for homework. These students must be honest and fair. ($425)
7. Custodian (2): These two students will work to keep our classroom clean. Throughout the day they will sweep the floor, pick up garbage, and encourage others to keep their areas neat. In addition, they are in charge of monitoring students’ desks. If a desk is getting messy, a custodian can request that the student stay in for recess to organize it. ($475)
8. Bathroom Monitor (2): This job calls for 1 boy and 1 girl. During bathroom breaks, these students will make sure all bathroom expectations are being followed. They will have a list with the girls or boys names in the class. Each time a rule is broken the bathroom monitors will take note of it and inform Mrs. Tucker at the end of the bathroom break. ($425)
9. Teacher’s Assistant (2): This job calls for two students. Each teacher’s assistant will be in charge of helping me with various tasks. These tasks may include grading, cutting out lamination, changing the date/schedule, writing down the homework, erasing the board, turning on and off the Smartboard, etc. The teacher’s assistants will sometimes be required to stay in at recess to help Ms. Bridgett with these tasks. ($450)
10. Technician: This student is in charge of the classroom computers. They make sure that everyone is treating the equipment with respect. If a student has questions on how to use a program on the computer, they will first ask the technician. Therefore, it is important that this person knows about computers. Lastly, the technician will turn on and off all computers at the end of the day (expect for Mrs. Tucker's desk computer). ($425)
11. Recycler: This job requires one student to monitor our recycling bin. On Tuesdays when our bin is being emptied, the recycler will make sure the bin is in the hallway. In addition, on days when the bin is full and is not being collected, the student will take it to the recycling bins in the hallway to be emptied. Finally, the recycler is in charge of making sure students are not throwing away paper or other recyclable materials. ($425)
12. Police Officer (3): This job requires 3 students. A police officer has several duties. Each one patrols a selected area of the room. The officer has a book with the names of all the students in their jurisdiction/area. If a student breaks any of the class rules, the officer keeps a record of the infraction. The officer helps Ms. Bridgett collect all the fines that students pay for breaking rules. These students must be honest, fair, hard working, and friendly. Police officers may not favor any students in class and must treat all students equally. ($500)
13. Banker (5): There will be 5 classroom bankers. A banker keeps records for five students in the class. This student must have an A in math and be a person of the highest integrity because they will be handling the classroom money. The banker takes deposits and checks from the bank customers and coordinates accounts with other bankers. In addition, the bankers will be in charge of paying salaries, paying students for earning good grades/being helpful, etc. ($500)
